An unusual Girard-Perregaux: The F1-047 ChronographFollowing on from Robert-Jan's excellent review of the Girard-Perregaux WW.TC Financial, I assumed a proper next article can be with a hidden GP that happened to enter my possession not too in the past - actually, get rid of an extended quest. Over a JLC Master Compressor strap. To state 21mm curved end choices limited can be an understatement. Visit all images for bigger. In the late '90s and early '00s, Girard-Perregaux produced a distinctive line of replica watches with official Scuderia Ferrari branding. Unlike the newest incarnations of Ferrari replica watches, these were subtle and extremely tasteful - so subtle that a lot of them don't even fact carry any Ferrari branding anywhere within the watch. There have been many, many variations of dial an accidents, but they also could effectively be put into three lines, by incorporating exceptions: fake tag heuer watches for sale These hand + date, time-only models; The chronographs with inhouse movement, GP3370;The chronographs with Dubois-Depraz module, usually ETA 2892A2 based having a DD 2021 piggyback. Generally known as the GP caliber 2280.One notable exception could be the SF Foudroyante with 1/8th flying and moment chronograph. The movement is usually a GP8020 that was put together by the British Masters and subsequently utilised in several Graham chronographs.Arguably, essentially the most interesting of the bunch will be the SF Foudroyante; it may not be the rarest though, nor is it the simplest to reside with - the movement will need very regular servicing and lubrication when the chronograph is going to be combined with any regularity. I have come across several available for purchase, some of which note 'watch requires service, flying used not running smoothly'. Also, it isn't cheap, even within the secondary market. Within the original rubber strapI remember first seeing the F1-047 early 2002, soon after its release. It should make quite a feeling on me, mainly because it was one particular replica watches that hovered powering my consciousness, occasionally prodding me to get one whenever a used model showed its face - which was rare. My hunt began somewhat more seriously after 2010, when I also found precious little information available regarding the watch. The GP F1-047 (Ref. 4955) and GP F1-048 (confusingly, also Ref. 4955) are siblings. The numbers range from model varieties of the engines powering the Ferrari F1 cars; it's rumored (so i were not able to confirm this, somehow) how the cases with the 047 were cast from aluminum material purchased from a pre-owned Ferrari F1 engine block. The 047 has a aluminum case; as far as I could determine, there was anywhere between 100 and 200 of these made, meant like a prototype series to the 048, with a titanium case (you'll find 1000 of such). The 047s aren't numbered, watches even so the 048s are. Both belong to your third class of Pour Ferrari replica watches, and are run by the GP 2280.It gets much more confusing. While I've only ever seen or heard of just one variant from the 048 (brushed titanium case, titanium back, titanium pushers , rubber strap with titanium buckle etched with prancing horse and series number on the caseback) - it would appear that there are lots of the 047. Apparently, versions exist with aluminum or titanium to the pushers/ crown an incident backs, and any mixture of printed/ engraved/ blank case backs!I've things i assume is usually a mid-production version, that has a printed aluminum caseback and titanium crown/ pushers. cartier replica paypal The strap buckle is also titanium, but etched 'GP' in lieu of with the prancing horse. In truth, apart from the F1-047 reference on the back, there is absolutely no mention of Ferrari whatsoever on this watch. One eventually turned up on my doorstep recording. It had been several years because i last handled one. I believed the therapy lamp was empty (!) - proved the watch being lighter than I remembered. It seriously felt like wearing almost nothing once strapping it on, especially after coming from my much heavier Sinn 756. The highlight with this piece will probably be its case and dial - back then, aluminum would be a pretty novel material for a watch case, especially with the completed applied here - brushed bezel and caseband, polished lugs and back. Polished aluminum is visually very interesting - it's a light colored metal, shiny but nowhere close to shiny as polished steel. I suppose it's approximately polished and sandblasted steel, but closer to rogues. If you take a close look though, there is a glossy coat over all from the watch - perhaps the brushed bits - that i assume can be a protective coating of sort, probably aluminum oxide or maybe a derivative. Imagined inside an alternate reality. I'm sure I will go buying blue calf strap.Surprisingly, the watch is a bit more resilient when compared to a would expect for aluminum - thus far, no dents simply a few hairline scratches on the glossy coat. This also watch is concerning 10 years old! Less impressive are warning signs of corrosion pitting. Apparently this is perhaps the most common issue with the aluminum cases, which GP was replacing at some time. Here are a few spots being worn by my lugs, but nothing serious, and it might be almost certainly unattainable to get a replacement case now.The dial is graphite, with a fairly large weave and waffle texture, except for the chronograph subdials, that are smooth and matte. All of the hands except the chronograph seconds hand are luminous, as well as the numbers, which is a nice touch. After minimal charging, nonetheless glows as being a torch - no tritium here. A tachymeter scale exists around the circumference of the dial, but like the majority of these things, is utterly useless and impractical. There exists a date window a 4.30 also, unfortunately it's white against a black dial, which can be obvious but not great looking. It lets you do, however, change precisely at midnight.Modular chronographs possess a bad reputation - jumping seconds during start/ stop, unreliability, impracticality of service, the list goes on. The DD module during my Omega Dynamic Chronograph may be problem free for the last a decade; no jumping seconds, but the pushers are obtaining a lttle bit sticky - I attribute that to your bucket design rather than the chronograph module. The 047, however, I think will influence fulfill its reputation. The continual used jumps, stutters and pauses with every chronograph start/ stop; the chrono seconds hand isn't that smooth, along with the action is pretty tight. Perhaps I ought to enjoy it that this minute hand doesn't jump too, which still keeps good time - to inside of a couple of seconds per day. While I'm ranting, there's one other complaint New kindle with this particular watch: the strap will need to have been suitable for a large. The smallest hole barely fits a 7.25" wrist; I wore it loose with another several extra holes whilst hoping to get a quick size, and then find out that they can only help it become in one size - and also a replacement could be US$300! Thanks to the odd 21mm/curved lug fitting, there are not many straps that could fit the watch. I settled on a JLC Master Compressor strap in honey calf, that fits like a glove, and complements the watch beautifully. When new, these were poor quality affordable by any stretch in the imagination. Unique, yes. Fortunately, a serious amounts of obscurity have performed wonders for affordability, so if you are patient, you can be had for just the buying price of an Omega Seamaster or Tag Heuer Carrera. With a few hundred these around, it is recommended to be prepared to wait though. Sometimes, the hunt is an excellent chunk of the thrill.MT
